Ones to Watch: 3DZ

Founded in 2009 by a group of entrepreneurs, 3DZ specialises in 3D printing products and caters for both individual and corporate needs.

What is it?

3DZ specialises in the sale of the most prestigious brands of 3D scanners and printers. The company offers a wide range of 3D printing products suitable for all types of needs, from private use to industrial production: jewelry, dental, electronics, mechanics, automotive, architecture, foundries, healthcare and aerospace. Nowadays, in fact, 3D printing is no longer just a technology for rapid prototyping, but an expanding universe, able to offer a significant competitive advantage to many different sectors.

Over the last years, we have experienced the shift from 2D design into CAD 3D, and it was clear that, sooner or later, companies would have discovered the potential of 3D printing and would follow the same approach. Back in 2009, it was an innovative vision. Almost 10 years later, companies in different sectors are using additive manufacturing not only for prototyping, but also for the production processes.

How is 3D printing set to transform the manufacturing sector in Malta?

Even if Malta is a small country with limited industries, some high-tech R&D centres are established here. 3D printing is the perfect fit for companies willing to introduce new products in their work processes. Toly, leader in cosmetic packaging, is a great example.

What are your plans for the future?

Our future plan is to expand 3DZ core competences in complex solutions that will allow companies to produce parts with the additive manufacturing. We are looking at metal printing (Markforged and 3D Systems) with new technologies that are just now being presented to the wider market. We recently opened a new office, the 16th of 3DZ, in Lyon (France), and our expectations are high.

Why Malta?

Malta has a strategic location, being in the centre of Europe, Middle East and Africa. Malta is very well equipped in terms of skills that are available in the country. In addition to this, English is an official language.
