There are now 687 superyachts, vessels over 24 metres in length, flying the Malta flag.

Malta has cemented its place among the Mediterranean’s yachting hotspots. In 2017, the number of high-end vessels on Malta’s shipping register grew by 20%. There are now 687 superyachts, vessels over 24 metres in length, flying the Malta flag.  


Malta’s location at the junction of the Mediterranean’s most important shipping routes has given it a significant advantage in its ambitions to become a leading maritime hub. Ship registration has become the number one activity of Malta’s maritime centre as global ship owners increasingly turn to the Malta flag. In total, Malta now has more than 8,100 ships and 75.2 million gross tons on its books.This means that in 2017 Malta continued to maintain its position as the leading European ship register and the sixth largest in the world.
