GDP growth rates of 6% plus characterise the economy of the smallest country of the European Union, and full employment is not far away. In March 2018, Malta's unemployment rate stood at 3.3% - the second lowest in the European Union.
In the EU28, unemployment rate was 7.1% in March 2018, stable compared with February 2018 and down from 7.9% in March 2017. These were the lowest rate recorded in the Euro area and EU28 since September 2008.
