Air Malta celebrates 45 years since it first started in 1973. The national Maltese airline started with just two flights to London and Rome, and carried 53,500 passengers in the first year of its operations. Today, Air Malta serves around 35 destinations and carries 1.8 million passengers per year. The airline, which has played a key role in in opening up new tourism markets for the Maltese tourism industry, is expecting to exceed 2 million passengers in 2018.
Although Air Malta has reported about € 13 million losses in 2017, the company is working to solve its outstanding financial issues and is planning to invest further in its growth strategy.
