Financial Support Services

Malta boasts a well-developed financial support infrastructure, and the country’s service providers offer access to a full range of banking, insurance and investment products. Five retail banks and more than 20 international commercial and trade banks operate in, or from, the island. HSBC and Bank of Valletta are the leading retail banks. Internet- and telephone-banking are advanced, and most banks offer foreign-currency accounts. Insurance companies provide all types of cover, ranging from personal, health, property, motor and travel to liability and employee protection. Investors can find a number of insurance management companies handling cover for large corporations and providing reinsurance solutions. With some 120 licensed investment services firms, corporations seeking assistance in the management of their assets are spoilt for choice. The country’s experienced wealth managers and stockbrokers are well connected and provide access to global capital markets.
